University of Liverpool is an internationally renowned Russell Group university, associated with 9 Nobel Prize winners.
91% of UoL research is world leading or internationally excellent. UoL has been awarded TEF gold rating in 2023 and is ranked 29th in The Times Good University Guide in the UK.
It has a strong international student community, with 7,700+ international students on campus.
The Department of Chemistry at the University of Liverpool has been ranked in the 7th for 4* (world-leading) research across all aspects (outputs, impact and environment) and particularly ranked 3rd in the UK for impact in the REF 2021.
The Department excels in all branches of chemistry research, particularly strong in materials chemistry. We have excellent up-to-date facilities in the Department of Chemistry and the Materials Innovation Factory (MIF) to support a wide range of research activities.
The Department of Chemistry has been awarded a prestigious Queen’s Anniversary Prize in 2023 in recognition of our pioneering chemistry research and innovation work addressing global challenges.
UoL (Department of Chemistry) activity will focus on the fabrication of porous and nanostructure materials (including polymer, carbon, and inorganic materials) via the use of ice-templating process.
These materials will be explored as scaffolds for controlled drug release, as adsorbents/filters for environmental remediation, and as catalysts for heterogeneous catalysis (with a focus on biofuel production and photodegradation).
